Limited talent pool is standing in the way of driverless cars

2017 was an exciting year for driverless cars: from Waymo testing driverless cars on city streets for the first time, to the UK Government’s plans to launch driverless cars onto the roads in 2021, in the past twelve months we’ve seen faster development of driverless car technology than ever before. Firebug’s Johnnie Christmas Brings us Into the Cult of the Goddess

During the holiday break, I tore through Image’s new TPB of Firebug by creator Johnnie Christmas. You may remember this series from the comic magazine The Island. Now Image has collected the complete Firebug tale and is releasing it this March. Here is a quick synopsis of the tale. A volcano goddess named Keegan is loose in the world, and the prophecies are unclear whether her coming will bring humanity’s destruction or its salvation. I was recently lucky enough to sit…

FoldiMate is a robot that folds all your clothing

Besides vacuuming, folding clothes is one of my least favourite household chores. It’s tedious, time-consuming and comes after the already lengthy process of doing laundry. Thankfully, just as robots have wheeled in take over vacuuming, there is now a robot for folding. The FoldiMate is expensive at $980 USD, but its functionality is extremely enticing. All you have to do is feed in items at the top of thee washer-sized appliance and it folds the clothing, intelligently adjusting the method…

Mastering the art of UX design

UX expert Gareth Dunlop explores the challenging question faced by many a designer: what do customers actually want? The classic criticism levelled at consultants of many hues is that they ask for your watch, then tell you the time. They are notorious for asking lots of questions and reporting back with little more than a glorified transcription in a 50-page report, 40 pages of which are part of an off-the-shelf template. This same criticism, viewed through the lens of the…

Ontario man charged with operating site that pedalled stolen credentials

Canadians don’t think this country as a major source of computer crime, but criminal charges laid against an Ontario man have changed that. Police charged a Thornhill, Ont. man with allegedly selling stolen personal identities online through the website, which allegedly was being hosted in Quebec. The site was raided and closed earlier this month. Jordan Evan Bloom, 27, made his first court appearance today in a Toronto court to face the charges. The RCMP said the charges include…
