LG is expected to announce its LG G7 ThinQ next month, but its other flagship phone, the V30, is also due an upgrade in 2018. Expected to be the LG V35 ThinQ, the new phablet will feature a 6in 18:9 display and dual-16Mp cameras.

So when is the LG V35 ThinQ release date?

LG’s V series is typically launched in September or October, though we saw an incremental update to the LG V30 at MWC 2018 in February.

The V10 and V20 were October launches, and the V30 a September launch, which tied in nicely with IFA. We think LG will likely follow the same practice in 2018, so we’ll see a LG V35 ThinQ launch at IFA. The tradeshow begins on 31 August, so look out for an LG press conference on or around this date.

That said, LG has confirmed that it will no longer update its flagship models on an annual basis simply because its rivals are doing so. It will update those phones only when they need updating, and will instead offer new versions of its current models in the meantime.

“We will unveil new smartphones when it is needed. But we will not launch it just because other rivals do. We plan to retain existing models longer by, for instance, unveiling more variant models of the G series or V series,” LG Electronics Vice Chairman and CEO Cho Seong-jin told The Korean Herald.

It’s worth pointing out that this does not mean those updates will not continue to be annual, just that we shouldn’t assume they will always be that way.

How much will the LG V35 ThinQ cost?

With its G-series LG typically tries to undercut its rivals on cost as a way of competing against them. The V-series isn’t known for its value in quite the same way, and TechRubik suggests the V35 ThinQ could actually be more expensive than previous models due to its improved hardware. Where the V30 was around 900€, it says the V35 ThinQ could be 1100€.

However, the site quotes no sources for its information and we’re not convinced. The LG V30 cost £799 in the UK ($799 in the US), which is still expensive but lower than the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone X, matching the price of the iPhone 8 Plus. We’d expect to pay a similar amount for the LG V35 ThinQ.

What are the rumoured features and specifications for the LG V35 ThinQ?

AndroidHeadlines has revealed several specs for the upcoming LG phone, which it claims have come from a trusted source and verified by in-house documentation.

It says there will be a 6in Quad-HD+18:9 POLED screen and an 80 percent screen-to-body ratio. There’s currently no suggestion that the handset will feature a notch.

Available in black or grey with a premium glossy finish, the V35 ThinQ will also feature a 16Mp dual-lens camera at the rear, which should be the same setup we see on the imminent LG G7 ThinQ. One of the two lenses should offer 10-bit HDR ompatibility and a f/1.6 aperture, while the other is a wide-angle lens with 107-degree field of view.

As before there will be a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC with an ESS Sabre 9228 and some additional customisation options and filters for fine-tuning audio. The V35 ThinQ will also support far-field voice recognition.

Some additional specifications have been offered by TechRubik, but again with no source so take them with a pinch of salt:
